IT Resources
TeamQuest’s "IT Resource" concept facilitates the combined performance analysis and reporting of multiple, related IT components. By merging performance data from components that implement a particular IT service, performance can be examined and optimized in business terms.
IT Resources can be used to analyze performance in ways that make business sense, across whatever technology silos that may exist in your data centers. It is possible to drill down from higher-level IT Resources to the actual hardware or software components involved in providing a particular IT service, regardless of where those components may reside. In this way, IT Resources provide for an enterprise-wide drill down capability, crossing technology silos or even data centers.
The diagram at the right shows IT Resource definitions for an organization that uses AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Solaris, VMware, and Windows systems. The organization operates a number of data centers in Europe and the United States. IT Resource definitions in this example group servers by operating system and by geography. In addition, the servers implementing each IT service, such as Accounting, CRM, and eMail, are grouped together for combined analysis.
Another capability provided by TeamQuest Performance Software is accomplished using workloads. Workloads allow overall performance for a system to be subdivided for performance analysis. This makes it possible to analyze and report on how much of a shared server’s resources are utilized by a particular business unit, for example.
Workloads used in combination with IT Resources make it possible to subdivide and/or combine performance data to allow true enterprise-class IT service analysis and reporting.

The diagram above shows how workloads can be used to determine how much of each server resource is consumed by different business units. IT Resources can then be used to perform a combined analysis for related workloads across different servers. This permits an analysis of the resources consumed by a business unit, for example, regardless of where those resources reside.
